It is no secret that Zuri Girl is always on the lookout for great new dining spots in and around Zurich. In 2014, Züri Girl discovered a couple of great new places and would like to share the 5 best new eateries in Zurich with you. Bon Apetit!
A former silent movie theatre, refurbished by Atelier Zurich, and transformed into a trendy new restaurant in Seefeld.
Ambiance: The restaurant is an architectural gem seating up to 120 people. The ornate 6-meter high ceilings tower over an elegant décor and glamorous neoclassical ambiance, accented by the 5-meter tall black & white Giraffe affectionately named”Zarafa”.
The cinema screen has been left unchanged and looks uniquely beautiful behind the restaurant’s second interior bar.
The Food: Is it Italian, is it Fusion or is it simply a mix of trendy, cosmopolitan dishes? There is nothing stereotypical about Restaurant Razzia, everything is unique! There are Italian dishes on the menu as well as a few Asian dining options. Zuri Girl opts for the carrot salad, a green salad and the tuna steak wrapped in sesame with rice noodle salad which is very good. For dessert we cannot resist the crème brûlée with Tonka beans combined with a berry mousse and pear compote – simply delicious!
Züri Girl Tip: It is not easy to score a last minute table, so book early! For a Friday or Saturday night, it is advisable to book at least 2 weeks in advance.
George Bar and Grill
This popular addition to Zurich’s vivid gastro scene opened in May 2014 on the 5th floor of Swiss Casino’s-Zürich and offers a beautiful view overlooking the rooftops of the city.
Ambiance: The interior is stylish and elegant with vivid colors in geometrical patterns, and an inviting ‘living room’ to enjoy drinks with friends – or your date – before dinner. With its eclectic, hip décor, and stunning bar as a centerpiece in the middle of the restaurant, this place emanates an international and trendy vibe…best enjoyed for dinner.
The Food: The cuisine is helmed by Sören Bischof, and the menu is a good mix of comfort food (steaks and potatoes) and grilled dishes. For a main course, Zuri Girl opts for the Tenderloin, truffled fries and the fried bream and spinach. The food is good but in particular Zuri Girl recommends the truffled fries as a side dish; they are beyond delicious.
Zuri Girl Tip: Dive into George’s menu of desserts– they are beyond delicious and a real franc savvy option too – the poached pear with white chocolate mousse for instance comes at a bargain of only 6 CHF and is mouth watering amazing!
This new addition to Zurich’s gastro scene at Kalkbreite offers oriental cuisine and is a gastro sister of long-established Maison Blunt.
Ambiance: The large room is divided by a bar and offers a casual local feel during the day, and a fabulous evening of glamour for dinner. The high ceilings are stunning, complimented by 4 custom-made chandeliers created exclusively for Café Bebek, lighting up the restaurant in a glamorous manner. The interior is a 50’s mix paired with a minimalistic chic. You know the place is fabulous, when it is packed on a Friday night.
The Food: The menu features a large selection of oriental dishes. Züri Girl ordered the vegetarian Mezze plate and a sausage skewers. Both offered an authentic taste and are nicely presented.
Zuri Girl Tip: Skip the starter and instead opt for a plate of Mezze to get a taste of the many different dishes offered.
Restaurant Loft 5
Located in Zurich’s Europaallee which has recently been given a face lift and now hosts a number of new bars and shops Loft 5’s trendy urban flair fits in well. It offers an outdoor seating for the warmer days of the year, a bar and an indoor dining area.
Ambiance: Loft 5 opened in May 2014 and has already become a very popular meet-up place. The interior is a mix of trendy, with modern elements and emanates an Art Miami type chic. (The ladies guest room even features a gigantic picture of a pink poodle)
The Food: Casual dining at its best. The menu features a great selection of comfort food such as the James Joyce Burger, fish and chips and pasta. Prices are reasonable. Zuri Girl opts for a poached egg with espresso cream and spinach to share. The interesting combination is nicely presented and tastes great. For a main course it is the buffalo curry sausage with French fries which is served on Cuban newspaper and Salmon with vegetables; both are delicious.
Zuri Girl Tip: Come here for your own little wine tasting. Loft 5 also offers wine dispensers and you can select your favorite wines by the glass
La Cantina La Lupe
Opened in June 2014. It offers authentic Mexican cuisine in Zurich’s lively Kreis 4.
Atmosphere: The dining room is colorful in pink with a few photos of Frida Kahlo and other Mexican idols. The restaurant hosts roughly 6 tables. Its charm lies in the restaurant’s simplicity which resembles a Mexican comedor.
The Food: Have you ever heard of Mexican small plate cuisine? ¡Aquí Está! The menu features various quesadillas and tacos filled with everything from cheese to beef. The portions are small so Zuri Girl recommends to order a minimum 2-3 dishes. We start with Huarache Azteca, a taco made of blue corn filled with salad, beans and cheese and tacos with beef. The Huarache is excellent and a light starter. Zuri Girl also ordered a Sopa Azteca with fried Tortillas and vegetables which is very tasty.
Zuri Girl Tip: Instead of wine pair your food with a Margarita. They are excellent at Cantina La Lupe and round off the dishes very nicely.

Louis’ Restaurant (closed as of 2016…)
Opened October 2014, this lakeside restaurant in Wollishofen is already a local favorite.
Atmosphere: Cheerful pastels set against a white background and delicate white chandeliers create a playful, yet upscale atmosphere for guests to enjoy their meal alongside a beautiful lake view. A visit to the quaint Champagne bar before your meal is highly recommended.
The Food: The seasonally changing menu, with market-fresh ingredients are expertly prepared in delectable combinations. For a refined palettes, the fried duck foie gras with apple compote is lovely, but we prefer the sea bass paired alongside vegetables, or a simply delicious risotto.
Zuri Girl Tip: We cannot wait until Summer, where there Louis’ Restaurant Terrace will offer 80-seats for al fresco dining and cocktails.
