Virmond_The Tasting RoomThere is something special about enjoying a lovely glass of wine in a comfortable and heart-warming living-room setting. Not only is this possible at Virmond’s The Tasting Room but you can also indulge in their delicious tapas and light meals.

Perfect for those who would like to grab a light bite, healthy soup or hearty stew made from fresh local ingredients over lunch, Virmond’s The Livingroom is located right next door.

Definitely worth the visit.

Atmosphere
Upon entering The Tasting Room you are welcomed by a candle-lit setting with romantically-decorated tables all around the centrally-placed bar. The modern and industrial setting is wonderfully balanced with a warm and welcoming feel. All around you are made aware that this is truly a tasting room – large crates are lined along the walls and wine bottles are carefully placed along the window sill. The decór has been carefully selected and designed to make you feel comfy in this romantic setting. A pleasurable place for an after-work drink or easy-evening relaxing.

Menu
A variety of mouth watering, home-made selections fill the menu. Each is explained in full and the complementing European wines have been carefully hand-selected and paired with each seasonal dish. Menu prices are very reasonable, hovering around just CHF 15 per dish. The portions of tapas and light meals are sized accordingly and will keep you content as you enjoy the fruitful selection of wine offered by the sommelier. From the unique Buckweat Crepe with Rocquefort Mousseline to the Steak Tartare with Vodka and the Three Kinds of Duck with Onion Marmalade and Quince Chutney, we are simply hungry for more!

Drinks
It is refreshing to find that Virmond receives all of its delicious wines directly from the producers, with an emphasis on biodynamic and natural. The focus is on French wines, but you can find a lovely variety of wines from other European countries as well. The Pinot Grigio, Alois Lageder is a delicious option to start out light. The very knowledgeable sommelier will gladly help you make the perfect selection and all menu items have suggested wines for pairing.

Why We Love It
Not only is the menu delicious, and wine list very well selected, but the staff are incredibly friendly and willing to assist with any queries. Their expertise is in well-thought-out food and wine pairing, with every dish complimented with an enjoyable glass of their large variety of wines to fit your individual preferences.

Zuri Girl Tip
To reach Virmond, the Wallisellen train stop is only 11 minutes from HB and the restaurant is just a 1 minute walk from the station. The ZVV App and Google Maps suggest taking the No. 9 tram to Altried, however, doing this is not advisable, unless you prefer a longer walk.
