Go ahead gals, add Meatless Mondays to the weekly schedule!

biosumoAs if we weren’t already head over heels about the adorable 3-room cozy Daniel H Bar, we are even more in love discovering their Vegan lunch Mondays – Fridays from 11.30 – 15.00 by the talented chef at Biosumo. A 1-man team with nutrition knowledge and healthy living practices our waistlines and cholesterol levels dream of.  The daily changing menu starts at CHF 15.50 with a focus on Asian cuisines and offers tempting tastes like Sushi, Lentil & Coconut Stew, Green Smoothies and Peppermint Tea. He incorporates raw food preparation techniques and works with gluten & lactose free ingredients as much as possible.

Haus Hiltl

Hiltl-Buffet heiss copyThis Zurich landmark rarely has an empty seat as locals and tourists hearts and healthy stomachs have flocked here since 1898 when it opened as the world’s first vegetarian restaurant.  Infused teas, freshly squeezed juices, soups, veggie & grain salads, fresh & dried fruits, in-house jams & chutneys, hot entrees like currys and pastas, home made ice cream and baked treats & sweets are just a few of the delicious vegetarian options created daily by Hiltl’s 30+ chefs. They feature a “pay by your plate weight” buffet style take-away, dine in cuisine and a la carte menu.  We haven’t met a Zuri Girl that has not fallen in love with Hiltl’s scrumptious vegetarian cooking.

Zuri Girl Tip: Get together a group of friends an arrange a kitchen tour with the chefs.

Taking a biological approach to vegetarian cuisine to a heightened level, Mohini applies the principals of Ayurveda to all meals. Using beautiful spices such as cinnamon, tumeric and ginger on a regular basis, along with ingredients such as chickpea flower, ghee and millet, the owners of this restaurant live the Ayurvedic lifestyle (learn more from their preferred partner)

For approximately CHF 26, diners can enjoy the daily tea, a soup, full meal and dessert that will keep you satisfied, feeling healthy and energized to tackle the rest of your day!

Zuri Girl Tip: The three-course menu changes daily and is best found on their Facebook page.

SamsesAffectionately referred to by the locals as a baby Hiltl, Samses puts a great deal of thought and creativity into their intimate vegetarian buffet in Kreis 5.

Long gone are the days when a vegetarian is served a plate of pasta with parmesean cheese sprinkled on top! Try a gorgeous beetroot and butternut squash timbale with a lime dressing, or a wild mushroom gnocchi with a pumpkin pesto. Come to Samses to fill your healthy tummy and leave inspired to re-create a delicious meal at home!

Zuri Girl Tip: The buffet is not very large, so going during off-peak times means you have a private buffet to explore at your leisure. Also, the location is just around the corner from one of our favorite salons: U’nique!

tibits_seefeldSmaller in size than it’s sister Haus Hiltl, but matching in flavor with a similar vegetarian buffet concept and the amazing tastes we love from the original location. Over 40 buffet dishes to choose from featuring an Asian, Indian and Mediterranean influence as well as seasonal specialties as well as Vegan Days 3 times per month. On a buzzing corner in Seefeld, it’s perfect people watching on the outdoor patio. If baby is in tow head 2 doors down to the Falkenstrasse location with plenty of room for buggies, changing tables and stroller friendly aisles. Go ahead and order you kiddo a ‘babycino” – it’s free and they feel like part of the coffee crowd.

Zuri Girl Tip: Takeaway is a franc savvy cost saver so why not get it to go and casually dine lakeside.
