Some enjoy marijuana to relax, others go to a spa. In Switzerland, you can enjoy both in legal luxury.
Originally the brainchild of Lothar Stöpfer, creative artist and chef from Zermatt who, in 1964, purchased 5 old barns near Randa only to dismantle them and use the old dark wood to construct this iconic property vis-à-vis the main station. In 1984 the Perren family acquired and fully renovated the hotel with a combination of Art Nouveau and rustic Alpine style and as of 2011, the second generation of family owners took over the property, swiftly adding 49 new guest rooms and suites. Unique to this renovation, the hotel only offers breakfast, encouraging guests to explore the divine culinary scene in Zermatt. The latest news is their Project 2020 and we have a sneak peek of their three highlights:
Parallel to the construction of the SchlossCottage scheduled to open July 2020, the new SchlossHouse (more on that below) is the biggest news of all…a CBD Spa. That is correct, 630m² of space dedicated to legally getting high in Switzerland. High on life that is, because CBD is legal and the relaxation benefits are compounded when you combine it with a spa escape.
This feel-good concept is built in conjunction with Switzerland’s leading cannabis distributer, SwissCBD (by Schibano Pharma Group AG). The diverse range of treatments utilizing CBD oils are oh-so relaxing, particularly when you are encouraged to spend time unwinding in the CBD herbal sauna and sip on cannabis infused herbal teas. Herbal based relaxation has been taken to another level with this partnership. Despite the well known benefits of this natural herb around the world, there is still so much to be understood about CBD and the SchlossHotel answered a few of our questions:
Is it legal?
What is CBD?
CBD is the acronym for cannabidiol, which is a cannabinoid. CBD has a calming and relaxing, anti-inflammatory and spasmolytic effect. Many users report having good experiences when using it to help with feeling stressed or sleep-related problems.
Do you get “high” with an intoxicating effect?
No. Contrary to THC found in other strains of marijuana, CBD has no psychoactive effect. The marijuana plants currently grown in Switzerland contain no THC.
Under this new motto, the SchlossHotel encourages you to escape the fast-paced world and take time for new experiences. Gone are the days of laying flat during holidays to relax, as active experiences in nature can be far more invigorating with longer lasting benefits. At this property, you are encouraged to:
Be Simple. With 4-stars, it is comfortably convenient.
Be Active. It’s Zermatt afterall.
Be Passive. So you can rest and regenerate.
This 2020, there are two uniquely different sleeping accommodations currently accepting reservations where you can experience a modern or rustic Zermatt with all your creature comforts. The Schloss House is fresh, new and sleek welcoming up to 6 guests. The SchlossCottage comes with an in-house sauna, mini home cinema and small wooden balcony to complete this private 3-story (rustic on the outside and modern on the inside) home right in the center of Zermatt.
Could this be the wellness trend of the future? If so, be among the first to experience Switzerland’s first CBD spa at SchlossHotel Zermatt.
