Spring/Summer ’15 Fashion Trends

Celebrate a new season brimming with versatility! From the 70’s with its big bright prints, glitz and glam, to a contrast of monochrome, transparence, clear lines and balance. Which ever takes your fancy… lets leave the cold winter days behind us and begin spring with new energy, style and enthusiasm!

70’s Bohemian Chic

I think the final image at the ‘Dries Van Noten Show’ encompasses the multiple layers, relaxed beauty and exoticism of this new trend. The models lounging on woven art by Alexandra Kehayoglou…a summer nights dream? Coachella remix? – Simply allow your imagination to take your there!

Key catwalk themes were mixed patterns in strong yet harmonious colours. Silhouettes – relaxed and layered – a mixture of floating Kaftans, dresses, waistcoats and wider cut trousers. Fabrics were predominantly sumptuous silks and suede.

High street statements will be flared jeans, short dresses with knee high suede boots. Fringing and feathers – especially with accessories, relaxed loose tops and big hats.

Groupie Rock
The alter ego and darker side to Spring Summer 2015! Inspired by sexy, ice-cool LA groupies from the 70’s. Saint Laurent’s head designer Hedi Slimane took the catwalk by storm with multi-layered textures, prints, platforms and wide brimmed hats. These looks are to be worn with attitude!

Disco Fever
Another nostalgic twist to the 70’s – nighttime glamour, as found at Studio 54. From Tommy Hilfiger to Tom Ford we were dazzled by Disco Fever- glitzy fabrics, flared trousers, extra short mini dresses, sharp tailoring… it`s time to get on the dancefloor!

Double Denim
Deluxe Denim combinations in all shades, cuts and colours were to be found on the catwalks. Even high-end brands added their twist to this trend. If you are not keen on mixing and matching denims, why not invest in a denim shirtdress or a new jeans cut to combine this season?

Big Flower Prints
Prints are big and bold… blossom in fabulous florals this season! For the courageous, combined from top to bottom as seen at Mary Katrantzou, Michael Kors and Saint Laurent.

Pure White
This reflection of innocence reveals fresh depths in texture with white. The richness of detail in the embroidery and Lace combined with transparent elements releases a breath of purity, tranquility and natural beauty.

Stripes, squares and graphic forms are core to this monochrome statement. This modern look revealed elements of elegance and sporty chic. Balmain one of my personal favourites, combined cut- away elements, mesh structures and chequerboard patterns. Yet another bold trend.

Black and white was not only graphic; it also displayed a balanced elegance. Key items underlining this trend- a slick white blouse, culottes and wider cut trouser- simply, clear, strong silhouettes.

There are many possibilities this season, depending on your style, likes and needs. Bucket bags, Small Cross body bags, Fringe bags, clutches and shoppers.

Platform shoes with thick heels or wedges will add new heights to your stylish combinations this Spring/ Summer. Roman sandals or suede knee high boots are great to combine with floating mini dresses! Flat- forms with chunky soles are still very en- trend and practical- especially for a personal shopper like me!

Try on, Try out, Have fun!

rowena_profile_deAs a Stylist and Personal Shopper I am continuously searching for the season’s statement pieces, strong basics and essentials to create an individual look. Fashion has shifted slightly over the last few years, perhaps due to a change in consumerism. With this, an interesting Style mix has appeared, a combination of labels and statements. It’s an exciting time to try new labels, colours, cuts and then mix them all up!
