The pandemic lockdown was catastrophic, yet transformative for these community cultivators in Zurich and the latest partnership between The Bath Shop x Conor Mccreedy is no exception.
The Blue Bath, appropriately entitled, is the latest expression by South African artist Conor Mccreedy who saw this bathtub as a perfect medium for depicting the sentiments of his Abstract Chaos Theory series. Painted with his signature Mccreedy blue, he says it reflects the socio-political conditions of our time and the unique work of art was exhibited for Zurich Art Weekend (11-13 September 2020) and poised for sale to collectors and institutions. Positioned as the most expensive bathtub in Zurich, it is estimated to be worth several hundred thousand francs.
We first met Conor Mccreedy in 2016 during a private gallery tour when he introduced us to his Mccreedyblue, a patented signature color which is composed of five different color pigments. His private works are derived from four essential themes: a singular focus on this one color; inspiration from the heroes of Abstract Expressionism; a long fascination with Chaos Theory; and a sincere reverence for nature.
He rose to fame at an early age, notably and most recently at just 33 years of age the above piece was completed during a “live” painting on Instagram during the Covid-19 lockdown and was sold to Princess Charlène of Monaco to support South Africa’s Pick-n-Pay “Feed the Nation” trust.
Let’s face it, what belongs in the loo is natural, but everything else organized by The Bath Shop is fully out of the box. They creatively position their stationary products, mobile accessories and encouragement to live colorfully. This father and son business was established in Zurich’s old town a quarter of a century ago and specializes in classic mid-century bathroom designs inspired by the 1880’s – 1950’s.
The inconspicuous shop spread over 3 floors is located in a 600-year old building that originally served as the first ice cream factory in Zurich. To this day, Mike and his son welcome surprise visits from sweet elderly folk who reminisce about their very first ice cream experience at this address many years ago. Today they are known to sell everything from a simply attractive toilet brush or magnifying mirror to apartment-dwelling locals, to shipping out 8 full bathroom sets for wealthy window-shopping tourists inspired to renovate mansions abroad.
For any private residents or hospitality professionals looking to renovate their bathrooms, The Bath Shop will aid with all interior design planning to ensure an eye-catching (and hopefully colorful) project that will stand the test of time. Their JACKSON and ROCKWELL designs launched 5 years ago were produced in cooperation with the London-based company, The Water Monoply, and this duo aims to bring color back to the Swiss water closet for a cheerful smile every time nature calls.
This rubber ducky is “the one” with its
long battery life and remote control.
Perfect for outdoor pools, ponds
and garden party conversation.
