She’s the woman behind Michelle’s Cupcakes.
Michelle Burke is living the sweet life! She has the dream job of delivering smiles to faces of all ages one delicious bite at a time. From humble beginnings of selling cupcakes at trendy markets around Zurich to becoming the most requested dessert to satisfy the sweet tooth of Zurich’s see-and-be-seen crowd, Michelle’s Cupcakes are found in Kreis 5 and in the City Center. When not in the kitchen whipping up yet another delicious frosting flavor, she can be found spending precious moments with her handsome son who is just too adorable for words. We caught up with Michelle to learn a bit more about what makes her tick…
What, or who, inspired you to enter the field of work you are in now?
Traveling the world inspired me to create something new in Zürich, to bring a a piece of New York and London to the place I live in. A little cupcake shop caught my attention Walking down Portobello Road in London, that was the moment I fell in love with those little cakes and decided to enter the field of cakes.
Tell us something most people don’t know about you?
Maybe that 5 months ago I gave birth to my baby boy Vincent.
Tell us about you out on the town…any favorite restaurants or boutiques that we should checkout?
Besides having cappuccinos at my own City Store, I recently enjoy having my flat white (like cappuccino) at Cafe New Zealand at Langstrasse 120 while rooming around Kreis 5. It’s not one of the most fancy places in Zürich but the coffee is amazing, the staff is very friendly and it’s easy to access with a pram. Also great and definitely a fancy place to go to for breakfast, lunch or dinner is the „Salon“ at Weststrasse 20 in Kreis 3. Try the Croque Monsieur. My favorite Sunday brunch place is at Ziegelhütte in Schwamendingen (still Zürich by the way and while worth a trip). Also lunching and dining is great there. A lovely tiny boutique called Marta hides away at Martastrasse 114 in Kreis 3, run by 5 creative women. A place that unites fashion, home decor, art and accessories.
