GG: What, or who, inspired you to enter the field of work you are in now?
Lipika Bajaj Kruger: I was always a fan of handcrafted fabric and wanted to work with artisans. However, life had other plans for me… When I moved to Zurich in 2012, I had the chance to follow that dream and I grabbed it! I was mostly inspired by the study of traditional textiles and the passion of the craftspeople that we work with.
GG: Tell us about your latest projects…what are you working on at the moment?
Lipika Bajaj Kruger: We are working on our new pashmina collection for winters, called – Tales of the Silk Route: Hundreds of years ago, traders, weavers, artisans of many crafts, and other travelers journeyed between the vast wilderness of Asia to Europe. They travelled through mountains, rivers and deserts. We know it as The Silk Road.
These explorers traveled from far eastern China to far western Europe and everything in between, alongside horses & camels in long caravans. They saw the colors change, the seasons change, the foods change and along the way, at inns and retreats, they told their stories. Colorful, silly, wise and some love stories! Many are fables with lessons of good. Many great events happened on this ancient road, but our collection is based on these stories that bind the elements together in a whole. Bringing endless possibilities to the openminded adventurers and seekers.
GG: Tell us something most people don’t know about you?
Lipika Bajaj Kruger: I am most creative when I design during late nights into the wee hours of dawn…
