What was once a village that we simply enjoyed driving through enroute to Ticino or Zermatt, Andermatt has become a preferred destination for casual alpine glamour and we find ourselves planning a girlfriend getaway…Check out our itinerary for some fresh ideas on how to enjoy this gorgeous destination just 90 minutes from Zurich!
Where to Stay:
There are approximately 30 lovely hotels in Andermatt for every budget, but we are going to THE destination within the destination: The Chedi, designed by famed architect Jean-Michel Gathy who did a lovely job of incorporating Asian influences into the alpine chic design. Since it’s opening in December 2013, we have stopped inside for a lookie-loo, we stopped again for lunch, and another time for coffee…but this time we can’t wait to unpack our bags in one of their well appointed rooms, and then meet girlfriends in the Wine Library for a glass, for starters.
We love to ski, so it’s without a doubt we will take full advantage of the Ski Butler services offered by The Chedi where skis are prepared and boots are warmed for our excursion via the cable car towards Nätschen, the gentler of the two ski options for Intermediate skiers before we are ready to conquer Gemsstock (2,963 m).
Sure, there are fun sledding paths, and Andermatt is infamous for cross-country skiing…so there are many options for everyone in the group.
After a full day of skiing, no doubt we will take full advantage of the gorgeous 2,400 square meter spa at The Chedi, where we will indulge our pores with an organic sol steam bath and Finnish sauna to relax aching muscles before joining friends in the heated indoor pool looking out towards the Alps.
The spa menu is heavenly with high-quality skincare products on offer…so we will be sure to reserve a heavenly massage in lieu of an additional hour in the Après ski bar for this girlfriend getaway!
The Japanese Restaurant by Hide Yamamoto is calling our name, as it is difficult to find good sushi in Switzerland…until you have arrived here! With an extensive Sake collection, the restaurant is quaint and a unique experience with healthy options for us ladies.
