Can’t you just feel that spring is in the air? We sure can and couldn’t be more excited for the wonderful changes the season brings. This also means we’re spending more time outside and in our gardens.
Zuri Girl took a sneak peak at the Giardina garden expo happening this week in Zurich to bring you the latest and greatest in garden design, furniture, landscaping tools and décor for 2012. A total of 295 exhibitors from seven different countries are presenting a variety of styles and tastes of outdoor living. Not to mention the 30 sample gardens that visitors are free to walk around that highlight the latest design trends. Throughout the five-day expo, various forums, workshops and presentations will also be offered. And Giardina doesn’t just stop at gardens. This expo has just what you need for your terrace, balcony or sunroom.
To help get the most out of your expo experience, we’ve put together a few tips on which booths to be sure to visit.
If you’re the kind of girl that doesn’t mind getting your hands a little dirty, Garden Girl Schweiz gives you the clothes you need for garden work, but with a feminine flare that keeps you in fashion. Find them in Halle 2. And to help you get started with your work, nursery plants, seeds and gardening books are for sale in Halle 7.
What would a garden expo be without some of our favorite Swiss furniture stores? FLY “furniture for uncomplicated living” in Halle 5 not only has colorful, contemporary and traditional styles, but they also have games and prize giveaways. Try your luck and see if you get a prize to take home! Pfister shows off their summer selection of outdoor lounges, table settings and accessories in Halle 5. Spectroom living & more has an exceptional rustic New England themed exhibit in Halle 4 and right next to them is a very bright, but classically designed collection from Le Coq.
For our Feathery Friends
One of the more interesting booths is for those of us that like to have a bit of wildlife in our gardens. Die Vogelvilla in Halle 7 has more birdhouses in different shapes and sizes than we have ever seen! Birds are sure to feel welcome in your garden when you get them one of these “posh” houses. And it will look great among all the plants and flowers too.
Gardens aren’t only a place to relax, but also a place to have fun. In Halle 6 BOWI Garten + Freizeit has a variety of playgrounds and equipment to meet every child’s “dream backyard”.
Of the sample gardens, we’ve scouted out a few that really made us say “wow!” Oliva Hoffman’s flora exhibit in Halle 7 combines flower arrangements into an almost “wall of flowers” accented by lighting from below. The flowers seem to glow in the darkened space around them. “Teatime” by Blumen Oertig brings the beauty of an English garden together with the delights of tea in their exhibit in Halle 1. Take a break from viewing the expo and have a freshly brewed tea while sitting in their exhibit. “Zeit sum Leben” in Halle 2 is by far one of the more interesting sample gardens – and one of the biggest. With a vegetable garden, swimming pool, patio and clothesline, it is the backyard that has something for everyone.
The smaller sample gardens “Hochbeet-Garten” and “reale – vision” keep space open, but still fill the area with plants, sculpture and furniture to create a relaxing environment for an evening with friends and family at home. “Grüner Traum” plays on the same elements, but with an eastern flair.
Dining in the Giardina Garden
Among all the water effects, stonework, metal sculptures, swimming pools and hot tubs, fire and grill pits, outdoor lighting, fencing and window shades, there’s always time for a snack! Giardina knows what’s good and has Mövenpick ice cream and Hiltl restaurant service along with the other nine restaurants and bars at Messe Zurich.
Before leaving the expo, take the opportunity to visit the Giardina gift shop for something for yourself or as a thoughtful gift for someone else.
The Giardina “Living your Garden” expo takes place in the Messe Zurich from March 14 until 18. Hours, ticket prices and details of the exhibitors can be found below:
