Fun in the Sun @ Arosa

GG Zurich posted on August 10, 2017

Mountains in the summer? Why not?! No need to wait until ski season to soak up the mountain sun! Especially when Arosa is offering an All-Inclusive Pass through October.

Once you journey 30+ minutes up the curvy road past Chur, passing adorable wooden chalets and waterfalls along the way, you’ll find yourself in Arosa, a pristine village with an unbelievably Franc Savvy Summer offer.

Here are our Top Reasons to Visit Arosa in Summer

Photo Opps Galore

The All-Inclusive allows access to ALL mountain transportation. For an adventure, take the Arosa Cable Car 2,653 meters up up and away to the Weisshorn to capture the perfect Christmas card family photo. Travel back down, but only until the Mittelstation for a terrace lunch at the Brüggerstuba serving typical Swiss fare in family style portions.

It’s also the Perfect Playground Pit Stop @ Mittelstation. A giant oversized snow plow is disguised as a slide, climbing tower and more with cushiony couches and glass-awning benches surrounding it…with a very enticing sign at the Brüggerstuba saying “Coffee to Go!”.

From there, hike down about 40 minutes to Pratschli (where there’s a gorgeous little mountain Stübe – we’d recommend stopping for a break) and then return to town via the bus (also included) or continue further along 1.5 – 2 hours to the Squirrel Hike (Eichhornchenweg) feeding and petting the cute, fury friends along the way ending back near town.

Zuri Girl Tip: If you stay at the Sunstar for 7+ days, SBB transportation to / from your Swiss home is included too!

Zuri Mom Tip: The Arosa “Info und Karte Summer 2017” is really handy as it labels all the stroller friendly walking paths and kid friendly areas (with images so if you don’t read German it’s still easy to navigate). Also, anti-nausea tablets are highly recommended for the curvy road up!

Outdoor Fun

Pedal Boats and the Ropes Course are part of the All-Inclusive Offer!

At the base of the Arosa Cable Car discover the Obersee where fun lake activities await you. Super stress free…show your card, grab your life jacket and enjoy cruising the small, peaceful lake playfully dodging the waterfall if it gets a bit too hot!

The Ropes Course (Seilpark) has 7 courses including 2 specially designed for children ages 4 – 6 and ages 6 – 9.

To cool off, head over to the other side of town to the Untersee. As Mother Nature was a unfriendly that day, we weren’t able to check this out, but hear they have a sandy beach, a diving board and solar heated paddle pool…and you got it…it’s included too in the All-Inclusive Offer!

Zuri Girl Tip: Not included in the offer, but super cool are the cool zip scooters (Trottinetts). For CHF 14, you hop on your red racing scooter and whiz pass the hikers getting a gorgeous view and forest tour. If you have a helmet, bring your own to save a few francs.

Zuri Mom Tip: It it rains, head to the indoor ice-skating rink…the entrance fees (not skates) are also included in the All-Inclusive offer and kids will be thrilled to ice skate in summer.

Sunstar Hotel

5 minutes off the main street, the Sunstar Alpine Hotel Arosa is a friendly, 4-star casual hotel offering a comfortable home for your Arosa visit. A full breakfast buffet awaits you each morning and in between hiking & playing, you can pop back into the hotel for a splash in the pool, workout in the fully equipped gym or relaxing time in the spa. The Davidoff Cigar Lounge and dimly lit Bar are the perfect place to kick the night off and a crackling fire is romantic in any season!

The half-board offers a tempting 5-course menu served in a white table-cloth setting with open-air kitchen and large windows. Paired with a glass of the local Swiss Grendelmeier wine, the Poached sole on wild garlic couscous was delish!

Zuri Girl Tip: The English speaking staff at the hotel really make it special.  Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. The Front Desk team answered our oh so many questions with care and knowledge (Nicole is from Arosa!) and the dining staff worked hard to fill the hungry kids bellies with a smile and not stress over the toddlers eating styles while always making sure a tired mom’s wine (and water) glass were not empty…

Zuri Mom Tip: There’s a small playroom perfect to “kill” an hour or so in between activities. Each night they played a movie around dinner time – it’s unsupervised, but close to the dining hall so most older kids headed there while mom & dad dined “alone”.

The Village

Coffee with a View: Formerly known as Cafe Kaiser (which is still written on the wall outside so don’t get confused), Gnuss Pur has an awesome balcony perched out above the lake lined with yellow sun umbrellas and waiting to crack your coffee craving.

Dagi’s Bündnerspezialitaten is a must for those that get their vacation high off of buying local, homemade gourmet goodies labeled with the Arosa seal. Perfect for stocking up on hostess gifts or indulging in your own foodie frenzy, we love the 5-pack syrup mix of Mango, Fig, Ginger, Banana and Berry as a go-to gift for any occasion.

Outdoor seating at the Bellini Bar is extremely limited (we’re talking like 5 seats!), but the indoors (image below) is oh so suave that we’ll happily swap the mountain view for the open-brick, low lighting candle lit indoor bar for a glass of PINK by Lea Metzger and a sharing platter of Wagyu Salmi.

If home decorating is more your gig, Flüeler has a gorgeous selection of farm village chic. Cozy up with an Arosa labeled pillow or add mountain essentials to your next dinner party. Really ladies what’s cuter than red & white winter reindeer serving bowls?

Zuri Girl Tip: Pick up Hy’s Tea. You’ll see it all over town including the COOP. Available primarily only in Arosa or close by, they’ve got a sweet story about the local mixologist and is super refreshing after a hike.

Zuri Mom Tip: Cindy’s has adorable bear & flower shaped pastas nicely packaged and great for the next play-date momma thank you gift!
