Explore Swiss Wines

swiss wine selectionSwiss wines are one of this country’s best kept secrets!

On the surface, wines produced in Switzerland have a bad reputation, but once we discarded what we heard, and actually began tasting some of these wines for ourselves, we were pleasantly surprised. Long gone are the days when you are not comfortable bringing a bottle of Swiss wine to your next party! Interestingly, every Swiss canton produces wine, and more than 160 grape varieties have been identified. It’s time to immerse into this region and explore all it has to offer.

Some suggest we simply do not know enough about Swiss wines because they are not widely distributed and are difficult to purchase unless you are within a small radius of the region the vineyards are located. We have fallen in love with the newly launched website www.SwissWineSelection.ch because they are dedicated to the promotion, sale and knowledge of quality Swiss wines…and they deliver directly to our doorsteps!

Hervé Badan, the founder of this ingenious company teamed up with head sommelier at the Pas de l’Ours in Crans Montana, Nahaboo Réza, to travel all over Switzerland in search of many undiscovered fine wines. They are committed to bringing us quality wines at affordable prices, while ‘surprising’ us with the unexpected.

More than just an online wine store, SWISS WINE SELECTION helps us further our knowledge of Swiss wines, as each vineyard represented has an informative video that allows us to meet the winemaker and tour the winery from the comfort of home. Three of the vineyards represented – the wine cellar from Uhwiesen Strasser, the Cantina Kopp of the Crone and the Visini Domaine Villard et Fils – have won the Grand Prix de Vins Suisses 2011, a gold medal for at least one of their wines.

Prices are affordable, as all the wines are sold at the estate price. We found a lovely bottle of Chardonnay Les classiques AOC Genève for a mere CHF 10.50, where most of the bottles average CHF 14-18. Not quite sure where to start? Make use of their sophisticated search functions, allowing you to find wines by grape varieties, characteristics, and even what foods the wine goes well with. There’s even a great ‘Discovery Set’ which contains either three selected local red or white wines and all sorts of practical wine accessories.

Discover your passion for Swiss wines with us, as we expand our knowledge and give them the recognition they deserve.
