Conscious consumerism is taking on a new meaning when we strive towards an economy without waste. That is why Ricardo is organizing the first national Secondhand Day on 26 September in collaboration with Circular Economy Switzerland, myclimate and 20 Minuten.
Clear your calendar, grab a girlfriend, and map out your Secondhand shopping spree. The organizers have made it very easy for you to see who are the participating secondhand shops in Zurich so you can organize which locations you will explore…and where you will stop for coffee and cocktails in between visits. Shop with a good conscience because after the event, Ricardo will plant a tree for every product sold!
As the saying goes, “One woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure” and your vintage and secondhand items can be highlighted in the campaign! The organizers are looking for individuals who regularly hold flea markets, swap exchanges, repair or upcycle items to participate in the first national Secondhand Day. Go above and beyond to join this exciting effort.
Only 2% of consumer goods bought in Switzerland are secondhand and the calculations are in…if used products were recycled more, CO2 emmissions would be reduced considerably…and they’re going to prove it! After the event, we will share their calculations as to how many CO2 emmissions are saved as a result of each item sold. Here is an interesting fact:
“Mr. and Mrs. Swiss produce an average of 14 tons of CO2 annually. To offset these emissions, everyone would need a forest size comparable to that of 17 Zurich Hauptbahnhof’s! Sustainable consumption is in trend, but products from second-hand shops are still considered “dirty” or “inferior” and are not popular consumer behavior.
Hope to see you around Zurich’s Secondhand Shops on the 26th!
