Does the space you spend the most time in properly represent who you are? We recently met Susanne Widmer, founder of Global Art Source, and this art aficionado has affordable solutions for the curious art collector.
Specializing in classical modern and contemporary art, Susanne has been in the business for 30 years and truly learned from the best. For the first 10 years of her career, she worked with Egon Zehnder International in the Zurich and Chicago offices, then spent 12 years mentored by the prestigious Thomas Amman where she learned all aspects of buying and selling fine art, especially paintings and sculptures. She worked closely with private collectors, museums and galleries all over the world and regularly attended auctions at Christie’s and Sotheby’s in New York, London and Paris.
After some time, Susanne wanted to explore an independent career in art. She has lived in the Far East and had a wealth of experience, but she did not want to open her own gallery, as she felt too limited to promote just those artists she worked closely with. Rather, Global Art Source launched in 2001 and she has been sourcing art from around the world to suit the needs of her clients ever since.
The purpose of art is washing
the dust of daily life off our souls.
Does your home or office space need a breath of life? Have you considered a collection of 3-D art sculptures to adorn the wall, or colorful textiles to add depth to a room, or how about some fun wallpaper or glass etching? For many, it is intimidating to invest in artistic decor, but it can be quite easy to update your fruit bowl or a side table lamp with something more eclectic, bringing a new level of joy the the room.
Susanne and her partner, Marco Meyer, have a broad range of design ideas that can help add personality and intrigue to your personal space. Overhead chandeliers are often purchased by expats from generic stores offering quick solutions, but after enjoying a brief meeting with Susanne, she gets to know your personal desires and can quickly source some ideas within your budget for your consideration.
Art does not have to be expensive! Susanne and Marco have a selection of contemporary artists who produce limited “Global Art Source Editions” that are affordable, even on a smaller budget. Whether you are working with a budget from CHF 1000 to hundreds of thousands, they have experience and options to suit your needs. A recent project very near and dear to their hearts is made in collaboration with Jacinto Moros who wanted to express this sculpture in the form of a hug to symbolize how people on this planet are united to overcome the current situation while embracing friends, relatives and health professionals. At the artist’s request, parts of the proceeds will be donated to Medicos sin Fronteras, Spain as a sign of gratitude for their tireless efforts during this pandemic.
