There are many Swiss Bloggers that are so incredibly unique, fun and informative. We aim to dig deeper, beyond their posts and into the minds and hearts of what inspires them to dedicate their lives to their blog. Allow us to introduce you to Cuisine Helvetica, a food blog created by Heddi Nieuwsma for people all over Switzerland and beyond!
GG: Tell us about your blogs name?
Cuisine Helvetica: Cuisine: In English, “a style of cooking” (Merriam-Webster); in French, “cooking” or “kitchen” (Larousse).
Helvetica: The Latin name for Switzerland; the nation’s official moniker, is Confoederatio Helvetica.
GG: Tell us about your blogs logo.
Cuisine Helvetica: The logo of my blog features a spoon and a red frying pan—to symbolize food & cooking—with a white cross, which represents the Swiss flag.
GG: How would you describe your blog?
Cuisine Helvetica: Cuisine Helvetica is where you will find articles, recipes and information about Swiss food, drinks and culinary travel from the perspective of an American living in Switzerland.
GG: Who is your blog targeted to? Women, men, travelers, etc. What age?
Cuisine Helvetica: I hope to inspire and inform anyone who has an interest in Swiss food or travel, or just generally enjoys trying new recipes. Also, for people who live in Switzerland that are looking for culinary events, I often share information about special markets, food festivals and more throughout the country.
GG: When did you begin your blog and what was your inspiration?
Cuisine Helvetica: I started my blog in 2015 as an outlet for my interest in learning about Swiss food. Through Switzerland’s traditional dishes and its current food scene, I can also improve my knowledge of its languages, culture, history and more.
GG: What is your favorite part of your blog?
Cuisine Helvetica: Sharing information and learning from others via my blog and social media. And, of course, cooking and eating!
GG: Based on your blog, can you give some advice to our readers?
Cuisine Helvetica: Whatever you enjoy doing, keep at it, and don’t give up! My mother always likes to remind me of her favorite saying, “Slow and steady wins the race.”
