GG: Tell us about your brand name?
Claudia Güdel: My brand name is simply my name: Claudia Güdel
GG: Tell us about the logo?
Claudia Güdel: Using my signature is just the consequence of choosing my name as the brand name 😉
I do what I truly believe in. This is what I stand for and I sign for my designs with my name.
GG: How would you describe your designs?
Claudia Güdel: My designs empower men and women for their daily challenges. I develop designs, which keep the perfect balance between elegant and rebellious. And when it fits into both, elegant and casual surroundings, I am really happy and satisfied with my designs.
GG: Where are most of your items produced?
Claudia Güdel: For the majority of our designs we use high performance materials from Schoeller Textil AG, Switzerland. We combine these functional fabrics with wool, cotton and linen, which are manufactured exclusively in Europe. Also our garments are produced in Europe. We work together with tailors in Germany and Poland.
GG: What is your earliest memory of being inspired by fashion?
Claudia Güdel: When I was 16 years old I designed a jacket inspired by a rose. It was awful!! Shape is no longer an inspiration for me. However, it encouraged me to keep designing.
GG: What is your fashion influence? Travel? People? Fashion Weeks?
Claudia Güdel: I’m inspired by people and their individual needs, moods and wishes when it comes to their “second skin” – Is it supposed to represent or to protect the person wearing it? Does he or she want to mingle or to stand out? When I design I am driven by all of these questions.
GG: What is your favorite piece you ever designed?
Claudia Güdel: The Ninja Dress is my favorite piece of the collection. With it’s 8 years of existence it has become a classic I take with me on all my travels.
GG: What are your favorite fabrics/textures?
Claudia Güdel: When I started as a designer, 15 years ago, I only used natural fibers for my pieces. Organic cottons, linen, hemp and wool. But since I tested Schoeller’s Fuctional Material “DrySkin,” I am convinced of its quality. It is a 4-way stretch fabric, does not wrinkle, it can be washed a 1000 times without loosing its shape, it is highly breathable and does not absorb stains. And it is very flattering even when tailored tight to the body.
GG: Where do you source your fabrics and where are your fashions produced?
Claudia Güdel: Twice a year we visit the Premiere Vision trade fair in Paris and the Munich Fabric Start trade fair to source our fabrics. For us it is very important, that the materials are of Swiss or European origin. We like to work together with our suppliers over a long period of time. Our cotton Jerseys for example are manufactured by an Italian supplier that we have worked with for 13 years now.
GG: Can you give some fashion advice to our readers?
Claudia Güdel: I always look my best when I am feeling good in my clothes. And looking good makes me happy, too. But desperately trying to look good makes me feel miserable and uneasy. I prefer to wear empowering clothes that are so comfortable it makes me forget about them. Once I can focus on more important things than on my appearance, I certainly look better 😉
