The stores are filled with seasonal delights….but what are the key pieces this season? Where should we invest our money? What can we mix and match with our present wardrobe and combine with our favourite pieces from last year?
Zuri Girl caught up with Rowena Downing, Stylist and Personal Shopper, who tells us to think about these important considerations, “When planning your wardrobe this season, what did you love last season and why? Which colours and cuts worked best for you? What are essential items for your needs and lifestyle?”
So, what does this Autumn/ Winter have in store? Here are some highlights:
From ruby to Ferrari: RED is a key colour this season. Associated with strength and power you will certainly stand out in the crowd! There are various ways to combine this colour, for the ‘mutige’ from top to toes as seen on the catwalk at Hugo Boss, Versace and Peter Pilotto. Or perhaps you are more interested in updating elements of your present wardrobe? Why not combine a burgundy skirt with your light blue business blouse or the same skirt with a beige polo neck and camel coat? The options are endless.
Suiting subtly toys with masculine and feminine themes. This autumn’s suit moves away from traditional tones. Grey is no “grey area” this season! The grey suit silhouette stands strong! My personal favourites being the grey metallic suit from -Mary Katrantzou- and -The Kooples- light grey check for a little rock and roll edge. For an evening event why not wear a sexy black suit instead of an evening dress? You could add your own female bow- tie to set off the outfit, as worn by Olivia Palmero and Angelina Jolie.
When thinking about your Winter Warmers…Whether plush fake fur, teddy coats, furs coats, brushed mohair, woven blanket coats, Shearling coats, capes, belted or big, staying warm and cosy is a Winter statement that makes sense in this city! Oversized coats are cool, but watch that the lapel isn’t too large for your face. If you fall in love with one as Rowena did, why not take it to a tailor and have the lapel reduced to work for you! Showing similarities to last Autumn/ Winter, this year presents sophisticated shades of lilacs, baby blues through to powdered pinks. Outerwear offers a new twist, a sensuous colour palette of pastels, complete with oversized coats, and the ever-soft and popular Teddy Coat.
Checks and tartans square off this print statement. From the catwalk shows at Celine and Isabel Marant to Street Style blogs. Whether a warm winter scarf, an oversized coat or wide leg trousers, it’s up to you how you wear this look.
This 60’s trend is in full swing with wild prints and mini dresses as seen at Louis Vuitton and Valentino. Combine this look with a statement boot and thick tights on a cold winters day.
There is a huge selection of skirt options this year, from minis to midis, circle skirts to trumpet skirts, combine them with sweaters, blouses, a polar neck (celebrating a comeback this season with inspiration from Audrey Hepburn and Sharon Stone)… be adventurous this season! Relax and cuddle up in front of the fire in a wonderful woolly dress. Paula Ka has a great selection for a special weekend away or COS for day to day.
We wish you lots of fun and look forward to seeing some inspiring looks in the city this season!
Please do not hesitate to contact Rowena if you have any queries or wishes regarding Personal Shopping, Wardrobe Update and Styling.
As a Stylist and Personal Shopper I am continuously searching for the season’s statement pieces, strong basics and essentials to create an individual look. Fashion has shifted slightly over the last few years, perhaps due to a change in consumerism. With this, an interesting Style mix has appeared, a combination of labels and statements. It’s an exciting time to try new labels, colours, cuts and then mix them all up!
