August ’19 Things to Do

posted on | updated on | by Zuri Girl

This month begins with Out-of-Office replies and ends with Back-to-School stress. Don’t forget to complete your wardrobe with bikinis and rain jackets. While August may be bizarre (yes, downtown turns into an epic Techno party for 1 day) there are also some cultural highlights not to miss.

Happy Birthday Switzerland… We hope you all had a wonderful Swiss National Day barbecuing in the park, soaking in the sun and enjoying the fireworks!

Summer Glow… We rounded up our top ways to keep the summer glow going strong while heading back to work and back to school this month. Top on the list is a special offer from the very feminine clinic Eram Dental for Teeth Whitening.

Dance Party…  Did you know that Zurich Street Parade is in fact the worlds largest Techno Parade with 30 moving stages (Love Mobiles) and 8 large stages along the route?  On 10 August you are either in two camps…those that avoid downtown, or those that dive right into the middle of the action! Electronic sounds will make the city vibrate and hundreds of thousands of people will be dancing in the streets…and by Monday morning, you’ll never know what happened because the streets will be sparkling clean.

Street Talent... Founded during the youth riots in Zurich 40 years ago, the Zürcher Theater Spektakel begins 15 August and is celebrating young people as protagonists who display confidently “We are the ones we have been waiting for” as a new kind of future unfolds before our eyes. A highlight this year will be the very special «20 danseurs pour le XXème siècle» by the French choreographer Boris Charmatz, which will transform the Landiwiese with twenty dance solos on the opening weekend of the festival.

Cultural Dissemination… There are just 7 more open air movie showings at Kino Xenix with the last one on Saturday, 17 August with Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing. Soak in the summer nights while expanding your horizons.

Kids Dance Party… There is a little girl named Yeshi who has a big fluttering heart, a thousand ideas in her head and is in search of peppermint green sneakers she can dance in. Join the book launch of “Einfach Yeshi” a powerful, heartwarming story about an Ethiopian adopted child growing up in Switzerland followed by a streetdance workshop for children on 28 August at KOSMOS.

Gut Instincts… 2 Days. 9 Informative Sessions. 3 months of follow-up support. A lifetime of understanding. The last days to register for The Blissful Gut retreat are upon us and we have a very special code for a 30% discount: GGZ30
