We always love to drop into the Museum of Gestaltung, it always poses us fascinating questions from design and culture and life.
This new curators from the Masters of Art in Zurich University were given the opportunity to create an exhibition and this was the idea selected for presentation to the public: UNLABEL – Fashion Beyond Categorization.
It made us think, how are we curators? When we look in our wardrobe, how do you select from your collection? What do you wear? How do you choose? Does it ‘spark joy’? Is it comfortable? Is it ‘you’? What is you? The exhibition UNLABEL questions the stereotypes of fashion. Is pink just for girls and blue for boys? Do only women wear skirts and men trousers?
UNLABEL presents the standpoints of eight fashion designers who think beyond the categories of “man” and “woman” and see fashion as a fluid form of expression. Visitors are encouraged to question stereotypes and invited to deconstruct them with scissors and put them together in a new way. Winding thread we answered a questionnaire about how we dress and shop. . . it really left us thinking. . .
