We were invited to Yoga & Brunch by Melanie Watkins, a new concept in Thalwil hosting small groups for a 90-minute Vinyasa Flow followed by Vegan Brunch. Here’s the scoop ladies…

An Idea is Born

A native Aussie, Melanie discovered her passion for downward dogs when living in London. While working full-time in the corporate marketing world she simultaneously pursued her yoga teacher training and educated herself on living a Vegan lifestyle.

Now living in Zurich, Melanie adapted her gorgeous home to feature a small (4-person max) yoga room and private yoga therapy loft.

Melanie shared her goal is to create an affordable, healthy and fun community within the Zurich yoga world. She ensures her classes don’t include egos or intense pressure, but instead a time to focus on self-practice, nourish the whole body and give women a chance to make new friends and have fun.

The Class!

The yoga room feels spacious with bright windows and an open-floor plan extending into the main house, but the space itself is rather small. 4 yogis are really the maximum which is quite nice as you can really be present and aware as Melanie guides you through the flow. No hiding in the back and dozing off here ladies!

The morning we joined Melanie led the class through sun salutations, balancing poses, twists and backbends. Combine this with Melanie’s gentle guiding voice, concentration towards breathing and soothing background music and you’ll be led to a pure yoga bliss.

Although you won’t want it to end the Shavasana is something to look forward to as Melanie revitalizes you by placing her soothing touch along your head and lavender mask along your eyes.

The Menu!

100% Plant Based. 100% Nutritious. 100% Delicious! The drinks alone would have easily cost CHF 50 at a Zurich restaurant so this definitely gets a check in the franc savvy section. Melanie generously served a freshly squeezed juice, coffee with almond (or coconut) milk, iron and B vitamin spirulina shots and rosemary infused water.

Decadently arranged on chabby chic plates came generous portions of nourishing Vegan pleasures included avocado & mushroom salad (served Australian style on toast), coconut yoghurt pots with fruits and homemade granola and Melanie’s Banana Tarts. A refreshing mint pesto and heart shaped hummus complimented the table & our taste buds.

The Location!

If you’re the type of girl that loves hidden gems, local ‘in the knows’, personal connections and supporting your community peers, then this is for you. Melanie hosts the Yoga & Brunch in her Thalwil home. The practice takes place in the beautiful open-floor plan yoga room. The astrological posters and yogi music exude good karma while the exposed wood planks and freestanding vintage fireplace fills it with charm. Follow this up with brunch in a tree-enclosed courtyard and we’re green with envy on her hosting space for sure!

Helpful Information & Links

Four Wheels or Two Feet. Located along a side “weg”, but easily found thanks to the yoga welcome sign. If driving there’s white spots along Seestrasse or go via the Thailwil Bahnhof and then a 6-minute walk. Better yet double down your healthy morning and cycle.

Shoppers Beware. As if Melanie isn’t talented enough in yoga and cooking, she also makes her own jewelry! She creates yoga inspired earrings and necklaces, perfect for your friend’s birthday or sister’s “Made in Zurich” Christmas Gift.
