Sledding in Switzerland

“Dashing through the snow ♪On a one-horse open sleigh, Over the fields we go, Laughing all the way!”

Sledding through the snow in Switzerland is as popular as skiing and snowboarding and oh so much fun! Also known as tobogganing and sledging, here are 3 of our favorite spots not too too far from Zurich to enjoy the view and of course, the speed.

Grab the waterproof winter gear, goggles & gloves and let’s get sledding gals!

How to Find it

Reach the trail Schlittelweg via the S10 train from Zurich HB. The last stop, Uetlibergbahn is where your 3.1km journey starts. As it is quite of a slope for children, families might want to try out Ringlikon instead.

Zuri Girl Tips

– If there’s not enough snow, the sledding run might not be open – it’s always a good idea to double check by calling first.

– Bring your own sled or easily rent one for 20chf in front of the train station. In case you’re out of cash, no worries! Just simply head to the restaurant by the rental and pay by card telling them that you’re here to rent a sledge. They will issue a receipt for you that you can exchange for a sled at the rental office.  Once you grabbed your sledge, it’s yours for the whole day long!

– For a double dose of fun, try the night run.

A famous winter paradise, Engelberg has 3 slopes for sledding…

2. For those who want a shorter 2.5km run, Ristis is a good option.

3. For children, Fürenalp is an alternative as it is only an 1km long and sledges are franc savvy free to rent.

Zuri Girl Tips

On Friday & Saturday evenings, fondue is served at the Chalet after night sledding.

How to Find it

Within two hours from Zurich, Braunwald is a 3km valley and quite safe for small children sledding from Grotzenbüel to Schwettiberg-Dorf or for more advanced but still kid-friendly try the Grotzenbüel via Grosssyten to Hüttenberg run.

Zuri Girl Tips

Sledges (and Zipfelbobs) can be rented for 10chf per day.

Our favorite part of Braunwald is that you can arrange an animal friendly option to enjoy the snow! Lovely huskies are waiting to drive through the wonderful view while you appreciate the surroundings with your loved ones.
