Lusting over PLAYLUST

ZuriGirl had the chance to interview Play Hunter, a Zurich based international photographer, style hunter and artist.  She is the author of the highly popular fashion blog Playlust.net and author of the photo book Now & WOW – A Style Hunter’s Book of Photographs. We had a very interesting chat and ZuriGirl was intrigued by her sense of adventure, curiosity and amazing talents!

ZuriGirl: Tell us about your blog.

Play Hunter: It’s a photo blog capturing what’s now, wow and next between Zurich and international catwalks. It started off as a way to present my work and act as a portfolio.  Now it’s followed by tens of thousands every week!

ZuriGirl: What was your inspiration for the book?

Play Hunter: No inspiration as such, but a gallerist and publisher who felt inspired enough by the blog to turn it into a book. The photos span stylish friends, models caught backstage catwalk shows, fashion-forward nobodies, as well as a couple of somebodies, like Sean Lennon, and his girlfriend, Kemp Muhl.

ZuriGirl: Are all the photos taken in Zurich?

Play Hunter: No, a few capture my Zurich ‘model citizens’ like one of my favorites of the Longstreet Club owner, but they were taken all over the globe…London, Paris, Milan, Rio de Janeiro.

ZuriGirl: Which is your favorite Fashion Show to attend?

Play Hunter: I have been invited to many (she smiles thinking of them all), but Rio is like a holiday!  It’s relaxed, easy to get around, and the models are beautiful.

ZuriGirl: What are some of the more unique photos in the book?

Play Hunter: Well, I love the gorgeous, elegantly dressed, Chanel model mounting her Vespa in Paris…or the artist Terence Koh in his gold-plated Balenciaga-leggings.

ZuriGirl: Who should we be following in Switzerland for the latest trends?

Play Hunter: Nina Egli is young, hip and the only Swiss designer at New York’s Fashion Week.  Another young fashion designer to watch is Sara Vidas from Zurich. She’s just been confirmed to show at Zurich Fashion Days in November.

ZuriGirl: Besides the blog, now that the book is completed, how do you keep busy?

Play Hunter: There is always something going on…There’s art shows, magazine commissions to take photos and write articles, there’s a new column in the pipeline for an international style magazine for fall, creative consulting…

ZuriGirl: How do you keep track of what is Now & Wow?

Play Hunter: Read, read, read. Breakfast, lunch and dinner with my laptop. I like to follow The Telegraph, The Guardian, Style Bubble blog, Cathy Horyn’s verdicts on NYT’s On The Runway Blog, and The Cut, New York Magazine’s Fashion Blog. But there’s absolutely no way online fashion fodder can substitute first-hand experience. So I go to fashion show, meet designers, travel abroad, and generally keep my eyes open for inspiring people and things from all walks of life.

ZuriGirl: What’s Next??

Play Hunter: There’s fashion show season coming up in September, I do an annual online photo magazine called Zurich Look Book with Zurich-based city-newsletter Ronorp.net. It’s out in fall, and for the very first time shot exclusively on Polaroid film (she has a 1972 Polaroid camera). And a must is a trip to New York City – never been!
