Shelves filled with knowledge…The Zentralbibliothek (Zurich Central Library), housed in the beautiful former Black Friar’s abbey, is a haven for reading enthusiasts. The library houses 5.1 million items and is free for Zurich residents. Since the English books are not in a designated area, it is best to search the online database for your preferred reading selection verse wandering the aisles. The database also searches partner libraries and will transfer books to Zurich at no cost.

Education, stimulation and just plain enjoyment…The Pestalozzi-Bibliothek Zurich (PBZ) has 16 branches throughout Zurich and offers a range of materials from books and magazines to maps and language courses. PBZ presents 3 membership options that range in cost and borrowing policies with subscriptions beginning at 25CHF annually (that is less than 2 bookshop books).  One of the best valued benefits of all…children under 16 may borrow books for free!

American Women’s Club Zurich (AWCZ) Library
A Hidden Gem…Members of the American Women’s Club have access to this excellent resource as a fabulous member benefit! No ties to the good ‘ol USA? Not to worry! The AWCZ Library promotes a Friends of the Library program offering non-members the opportunity to borrow unlimited books and rental DVD’s for an annual subscription of 75CHF.  Many popular and current adult and children books available, as well as audiobooks and DVD’s with special holiday selections and new items added monthly.
