Some places just “get it” and Zuri Girl set out to find the best brunches our city has to offer. With the gorgeous weather coming up, it’s time to pull out your social calendars, call some girlfriends and meet up at these fabulous weekend hotspots, and we love it when a glass of Prosecco is included…now, if only we could convince one of these fabulous restaurants to build a Bloody Mary Bar!
Traditionally Delicious…Historically, the sport of ‘fencing’ was not allowed within the city limits, so this nature spot was a popular among sport enthusiasts. Today, Wirtschaft Degenried offers a beautiful Wald-Zmorge – Forests’s Breakfast – to include a glass of sparkling wine, warm beverages, and a sumptuous brunch buffet for CHF 39. Konfitüre is homemade and the Fotzelschnitten (Swiss-style French Toast) is not to be missed! For the perfect afternoon, walk off your brunch through the winding forest trails near the Dolder.
Best Value…For approximately CHF 35 per person, the “Movie Brunch” is all-inclusive with a generous spread of meats, cheeses, fruits, yogurts, breads, an omelet and waffle station and wide selection of fresh juices. Also included are unlimited coffee/tea refills and a glass of Prosecco. We love the roomy outdoor seating during gorgeous warm days, and inside this concept restaurant is entertaining from top to bottom!
The Standard…When considering Brunch in Zurich, Bohemia always comes to mind, as they were among the first to offer an American-style brunch years ago, complete with bagels with lox & cream cheese. Renovated in ’11, and better than ever, this modern interior is reminiscent of a Parisian café, with comfy booths, lounge and bar seating. Bocafé, the house-roasted coffee is special in and of itself (roasted every Friday by corporate accountant/coffee enthusiast!). Check back for free concerts by local musicians.
Fork & Bottle
A hidden gem…Opened April 2012, Fork & Bottle is the culinary brainchild of chef Mike Goguen from Melt Catering. He just gets it. In addition to the usual American Brunch suspects, Gougen serves up Cinnamon Brioche French Toast, Crab Cake Eggs Benedict, a heavenly California Breakfast Burrito and delicate blueberry muffins with lemon zest & crumble topping. All pairs well with his Artisinal Beer menu!
Le Pain Quotidien
Celebrate breakfast…Enjoy this casual restaurant where well-intentioned simplicity is superior. From soft buttery Bio croissants to large jars of delectable konfitüre and chocolate spreads complimentary on each table – far more appealing than the tiny single serving packets found at most restaurants! The guys will love the Skandinavischer Brunch, complete with shrimp cocktail, delish! Wi-fi is not available, encouraging only good food and good conversation…and don’t forget to purchase a fresh baguette on your way out!
True English Breakfast…Sunshine yellow and modern artwork by local artists adorn the walls at this casual restaurant. The atmosphere is uplifting, the brunch is delicious and affordable. Beyond the great food, Bubbles offers a “Philosopher evening every 1st Thursday of the month and backgammon enthusiasts gather every Wednesday from 19.00. The place is casual and you’ll love this neighborhood restaurant for a quick bite.
For an Experience…Are you looking for a beautiful experience by the Zürichsee to sport your oversized sunglasses and head-to-toe white summer outfit, Quai 61 is a must. Conveniently located near Seebad Enge, consider a nice post-brunch relaxing walk through the Arboretum and hop aboard the ferry at Bürkliplatz after enjoying the Hangover Breakfast WITH Bloody Mary.
Beyond the Buffet…Sure, we love Hiltl for breakfast, lunch and dinner (did you know they have an awesome breakfast spread starting at CHF 2.50/100g?!) but their rich brunch buffet on Sundays and holidays from 09.30-14.30 is fabulous, complete with live music, a glass of Prosecco…and children under 6 eat free! Choose from fresh squeezed juices, a hot & cold buffet and the most unique brunch experience in Zurich.
