Experience sleeping under the stars in the great outdoors where camping is effortlessly paired with glamorous overnight accommodations and gourmet meals. We discovered a very special destination just across the Röstigraben (the border between the Swiss-German and Suisse Romande inhabitants of Switzerland) where La Pinte du Vieux Manoir is situated. This property is filled with contrasting delights, an informal gourmet restaurant on Lake Murten with three unforgettable glamping opportunities in this rural 5-star destination.
The Glass Diamond Tree House
For a romantic getaway, this childlike dream house brings your adult fantasies to life. Every single detail of this treehouse has been thought of to ensure your comfort, and leaves you with nothing more to be desired. Perched above the tree canopy with a panoramic view of the lake, nothing impedes nature from flowing through the room.
The Signalman’s Railway House
Also known as the “Bahnwärterhüsli” this adorable former home sits directly on the railway line and was built to house the person in charge of closing the gates prior to each passing train. The modest home has been renovated to preserve the historical significance while illuminating the conveniences of modern life. This is a very unique glamping experience, perfect for families with young children, because it allows you to experience two worlds at once with one foot in history and the other in today.
The Lake House
If you have family visiting Switzerland, this is the ideal overnight destination. Comfortably sleeping 6 people, the Lake House offers a 4 room vacation home situated directly on the Mürtensee complete with a sauna indoors and on your tree lined property, you will find a private garden with a barbeque and lake access. For meals you don’t wish to grill yourself, the gourmet restaurant is just a few steps away.
For an intimate dining experience with a detailed focus on palatte amusement by Chef Reetz and his team, this restaurant offers a gourmet menu with an unassuming ambiance to match. With each course, you will feel as though the kitchen is preparing meals exclusively for your table. We definitely recommend beginning your dining pleasures with the house speciality, the tuna sashimi paired with one of the lovely hand selected regional wines.
The first property in Switzerland added to the Relais & Châteaux collection, La Pinte du Vieux Manoir is a 34 room villa that was originally a wedding gift from Laure Mallet-Chatoney to his wife in 1906 after he inherited the property from his family who purchased the land in 1724.
Upon arrival, don’t be surprised, as you do not check in to the main entrance as the building has been closed for the past few years due to a blocked expansion project awaiting approval from the local community. Fortunately for all guests, the three glamping houses share the private and secluded park and exceptional restaurant.
Take a gander around the town’s rampart walls built in the 12th century and taste the regoional speciality, Aebersold’s Nidelkuchen. Play a round of Minigolf on the Murtensee…and after the game, the winner needs to buy everyone a scoop of gelato at Gelateria Emilia located just around the corner. As the saying goes, “When in Rome” go all out and visit the surrounding area of Murten, where you are encouraged to travel back in time and explore the ancient Roman amphitheater in Avenches dating back to the 2nd Century. For a family experience that will put a smile on everyones’s face, be sure to visit the Papiliorama butterfly sanctuary before or after your excursion to Murten.
