One thing we know about Zurich is that each season has its perks. With summer on our doorstep we thought we would share with you what our idea of a perfect Saturday in Zurich would look like from start to end. We hope this inspires you and you can give some of it a try one of these beautiful days.
Brunch is always a good idea and great way to start the weekend! We have our own handy guide of the Best Brunch Spots in Zurich, or we also love Culture Trip’s list of favorite places to brunch in Zurich. Whether you want a full english fry up or your classic continental breakfast, this list captures all your options.
The flea market is calling, you have to go!
One of the best things about Zurich on a Saturday are the flea markets. Our particular favorites are at Helvetiaplatz and Bürkliplatz where so many pre-loved items are sold at much-loved prices. Crushing the stereotypical expensive shopping outing, flea markets are an affordable way to shop in Switzerland. There you find both designer and non-designer shoes and clothes, jewelry, furniture, books, deco items to up-cycle and many other collectibles. The best part is, most prices are negotiable so you can have a nice time haggling too!
Wind the day down by hanging out lakeside near Bellevue where there are usually street musicians to enjoy. There is one particular guy that plays feel good music right across the road from Bellevue. Mix that with the gorgeous background and you’re totally transitioned to a completely different world. We approached him to get his name and find out where else he plays. His name is Eddie Crossroad and apart from playing at the lake he also plays at Kaufleuten on select Thursdays.
Have you seen Zurich from different angles and wanted to connect the dots with a lakefront perspective? We have the perfect solution for a panoramic view of Zurich. All you need to do is rent a pedal boat at one of the many kiosks around the lake. You can either book for 30 minutes or by the hour. Be sure to wear your swim suit so you can take a dip right in the middle of these heavenly views with the Alps in the background. You could also bring some drinks and a light bite with you to enjoy while paddling away.
End the day with a picnic dinner at the lake. Our favorite spots are Chinawiese, Rentenwiese or Mythenquai. You can find city grill stations but since they tend to be overcrowded in summer you are better off taking your own grill. These portable / disposable grills can easily be found at COOP, Migro, Denner and Lidl. Or step it up a notch and leave it to the pros at Ambassador à l’Opéra to create the picnic for you.
