Designed in Zürich, made in Italy, blending minimal silhouettes with Easy-Care & Easy-Wear materials. LIKOV was founded by Liza Kovalyova in late 2015.
There are many Swiss Fashion Designers that are so incredibly creative, modern and passionate. We aim to dig deeper, beyond their designs and into the minds and hearts of what inspires them to dedicate their lives to their brand. Join us on a journey of discovering all things fashionably Swiss…allow us to introduce you to LIKOV!
GG: Tell us about your brand name?
LIKOV: LIKOV is named after myself, Liza Kovalyova, and is a portmanteau of the first 2 letters of my name “LI” and first 3 letters of my surname “KOV”.
GG: Tell us about the logo?
LIKOV: I’d always used to sign my designs with my initials L.K., that’s why I’ve hidden in the logo the letters L and K in geometric tree-dimensional shape. I ultimately wanted my character to be reflected in my logo. I like the combo of black and white because my designs are clean, minimal, practical, modern and only focus on essentials.
GG: How would you describe your designs?
LIKOV: LIKOV’s pieces are easy to care for through the use of special anti-wrinkles fabrics which are comfortable and made with practical fitting solutions. It can be worn all year around. My collections are elegant, modern, trendy and practical for any occasion; day to evening, during work days or weekends.
GG: Where are most of your items produced?
LIKOV: I produce in Italy in a well-known atelier in the heart of Milan where all the emerging brands, Italian and non, make their production. So everything is 100% “Made in Italy” starting from labels to final stitches.
GG: What is your earliest memory of being inspired by fashion?
LIKOV: Definitely my mom. I grew up in a family of musicians. Music, art and fashion have been part of my life since childhood. Watching my mom choosing her outfits for the stage performances, seeing how dresses and make-up enhanced her beauty and femininity on stage was so inspirational for me as a little girl.
GG: What is your fashion influence? Travel? People? Fashion Weeks?
LIKOV: Once again my mom is my biggest influence in fashion. While all the other mothers sported really classical attire, my mom had always this Rock’n’Roll attitude with cool biker leather jackets, shiny 80’s hoops earrings and high waisted denim. She would pay attention to every single detail. Thus our styles are completely different, I’m more structured and classy, but the grit and rock attitude I got from my mom.
Besides that, I’m mostly inspired by traveling and architecture. For example after a trip to Japan I felt in love with pastel colors and the skyscrapers of Shanghai inspired me with their geometrical and tree-dimensional shapes.
GG: What is your favorite piece you ever designed?
LIKOV: Little Black Dress version by LIKOV – dress ANN. It was one of the dresses with most of the corrections during the fitting, because I wanted it to be perfect in it’s simplicity! I thought it would be a complete disaster, but then it end up being our Bestseller piece, that you can wear everyday to absolutely any occasion.
You can choose ANN LBD in 5 amazing colors! The length and the structure of the dress are made in way that it looks great with high heels but also with converse sneakers!
GG: What are your favorite fabrics/textures?
LIKOV: I like eco-bio leather, which is made with the newest technologies, absolutely breathable and washable. As it non-animal leather it gives me a possibility to offer a wide range of trendy colors and there is no need to harm animals to produce dresses.
That’s why the motto of LIKOV is EASY TO CARE – EASY TO WEAR Clothing – no worries for washing and ironing.
GG: Where do you source your fabrics and where are your fashions produced?
LIKOV: I source my fabrics mainly from Italy, Belgium and Greece.
GG: Can you give some fashion advice to our readers?
LIKOV: Nowadays having only beautiful pieces in your wardrobe is not enough. Our clothes should be suitable from working to rushing to happy hour! So being modern and elegant today means having practical, versatile and on point pieces. So be yourself. Choose the wardrobe that suits you. Let people see YOU IN the dress and not the Dress ON you. And remember, LESS is MORE.
