Imagine discovering a new city with up to 700 other women during a one-day touristic and athletic event…
welcome to “Pop In the City“.
We recently discovered this fun urban race in Geneva, complete with 30 challenges divided into 5 categories: Culture, Art, Sport, Solidarity and Extreme. The event is such a unique experience and a new way to discover a city, whether you live there or just came for the Pop In event.
You can reach Geneva via direct train from Zurich in just 2 hours, 45 minutes. As the jet d’eau beckons tourists to this French-speaking metropolis, the city is also a global hub for banking and diplomacy. A day-trip from Zurich is certainly possible, but with so much to see…plan a weekend and immerse yourself in this list of Geneva’s Top 10!
The PopIn Experience:
Consuming one full day, teams of 2 women are pumped to explore the unknown in this urban race, armed with their city map and a roadbook filled with challenge clues. From curious street names, to historic landmarks and delicious surprises, the day will be complete with unique experiences and a chance to give back to the city (with a humanitarian challenge) while taking away a memorable experience filled with big smiles and a feeling of accomplishment.
Some of the challenges from other cities include:
- Art : become a Portuguese artist tiler by making an azulejos fresco on a huge wall.
- Sport : fight gladiators in Nice.
- Extreme : rappel down a 200 feet-high tower or eat criadillas at 9am…
- Solidarity : refurbish a foster home for teenage mothers.
- Culture : cook the typical local dish (still under debate) in a famous restaurant… And eat it once you’ve made it.
Zuri Girl Tip: Once you receive your roadbook, take 30 minutes to map out your plan of attack, otherwise you risk criss-crossing the city multiple times and wasting precious time. Also, enjoy speaking with locals for help!
That’s right…it’s an adventure! We charmed snakes, and repelled down Manor in Geneva, a 4 story building that was both terrifying and exhilarating! It is so much fun watching women unite with their orange t-shirts and common goal to explore the city while making new friends in the process. The extreme adventures are a big surprise (incase you missed it…we repelled down the steep face of a building!) but once you trust yourself and your teammates, you realize you can accomplish anything together!!!
We stayed at the Hotel Rotary MGallery by Sofitel, just a 2 minute walk to Lake Geneva. Designed for the female traveller, this property truly understands how to surprise a woman. From the rose and the lovely squares of Ladurée chocolate lying on the bed as a welcome gift, to the menu of high quality travel-size skincare products in the bathroom…we were impressed. Dinner in the restaurant was exceptional, and the breakfast buffet in the morning was complete with locally made honey. Oh, and the bed is soooo dreamy! We are still on the hunt for the incredibly large and comfortable down pillows so we can recreate that comfortable sleep at home.
