Travel Free in Ticino!

posted on | updated on | by Zuri Girl

Adventure down to the inviting, relaxed and warm environment of Ticino, the Italian side of Switzerland. We discovered the best way to get the most out of la dolce vita with the Ticino Ticket…with this golden pass you are encouraged to travel every corner of the Canton on public transportation for FREE…and so much more! If that is not enough, check out the great offer from Ascona-Locarno “Kids Welcome” where families can benefit from free accommodation for children up to 12 years.

Here are the top 5 reasons we love the Ticino Ticket:

From the moment you check in to a Hotel, Campsite or Hostel you will receive free public transportation throughout Ticino for your entire stay, until midnight of the day you check out…for our most recent visit, we loved the Hotel Internazionale Bellinzona as home-base while exploring the region, where we also enjoyed Gnocchi that we are still craving today!

Getting around Ticino couldn’t be easier, as all transportation is fully included on the entire SBB train network, all city busses and even the yellow Postal busses that take you to the valleys and more remote regions

You are able to save time and enjoy more of your holiday excursions without having to worry about searching for change to purchase multiple tickets…just hop on the public transportation and go explore!

Transport yourself from land to water with a 25% boat ride discount for Lake Lugano and Lake Maggiore

Enjoy a 30% discount on more than 30+ Ticino attractions…here are some of our selected favorites:

Enjoy an adventurous journey through this grand country in miniature form…at a scale of 1:25 to be precise. In this 14,000 m2 theme park, you can admire more than 120 models of Switzerland’s most iconic buildings and landscapes. Where else can you walk from the Matterhorn to the Eiger in less than an hour?! Currently, the team is working on rebuilding the Piz Gloria atop Schilthorn and adding historical buildings to the Appenzeller region (as seen in the photo gallery below)…we love this place! Zuri Girl Tip: Being so close to Foxtown Factory Stores you should combine a visit to this adorable theme park with the affordable shopping destination, just 15 minutes down the way.

Falconeria Locarno

Set your eyes on more than 30 breathtaking birds of prey and marvel in wonder as they soar above your head with trained perfection. Falconry is the ancient art of hunting, originating 4000 years ago when Berkutschi (Falconers) would travel on horseback with their eagles to hunt foxes, hares and wolves. The Falconeria Locarno takes exceptional care of these powerful, falcons, eagles, owls and vultures, so that you can enjoy them in their full glory, in flight! There are two shows daily (moderated in German and Italian) and you will be amazed at how well trained the birds are. After the show, the kids can enjoy a pony ride, or holding a bird for a professional photo.

Lido Locarno

Chill with the locals at Lido Locarno where you can spend the entire day splashing around in Lake Maggiore, zoom down the water slide, relax in the thermal baths and soak up the Ticinese sun (it seems to be just perfect down here!). This is the most modern seaside resort and we absolutely love the adjoining BLU Restaurant & Lounge where there is a dedicated playroom for children while the adults enjoy a high quality meal.

Splash e Spa Tamaro

Rain or shine, this is quite possibly the coolest waterpark in Switzerland! Upon arrival, you see the large green waterslide structure begging you to enter and explore. Beyond the locker room, up the stairs and into the main arena you will immediately sense this place is great for little-kids and big-kids alike, complete with a wave pool, children’s water play area, swim-up-bar for the adults and Top 40 Hits music playing overhead…and that’s just inside! Venture outside to the relaxation deck filled with hammocks and wrap around jacuzzi tub with just enough privacy for couples on a romantic getaway. We highly recommend spending the day in this region, possibly starting with some fun at the Adventure Park Monte Tamaro, then finishing with some relaxation time at Splash e Spa.
