Have you ever walked by a building numerous times per week and never realized the beautiful experience awaiting you inside? That is exactly how we felt every time we exited the Hauptbahnhof onto Bahnhofstrasse and walked by the Hotel Schweizerhof Zurich…we went beyond the inviting Café Gourmet French bistro on the ground floor and realized this is our new favorite hotel for visitors due to it’s excellent location near the Main Station (perfect for anyone who needs to reach the airport for a flight the next day!) and elegant interior.
The Hotel Schweizerhof
Built in 1876 by two architects, the property overlooked a sheep pasture, the rail station and what is known as today’s Bahnhofstrasse. In 1971, the property was purchased by two sisters who invested CHF 15 million into renovating the fascade and interior shortly thereafter and they have continuously improving the property ever since. The most recent renovation included the introduction of a beautiful new interior design (see below for photo) and hotel gym.
Le «Café Gourmet»
We often meet associates here for a coffee and business meeting. The coffee, pastries and ambiance are of top quality and beautifully presented in this French bistro style ambiance with it’s small tables, bar and boulevard terrace. A local secret…pick up some caviar here, a known delicacy, as a special treat for a dinner party you are attending or may be hostessing.
The Gourmet La Soupière
Champagne Breakfast is included with every overnight accommodation at the Hotel Schweizerhof within the La Soupièrie Restaurant, and this alone is well worth the overnight stay! It is no secret that Swiss hotels have a lovely breakfast buffet, but this may very well be the most incredible spread we have ever experienced and the ambiance is just lovely. For lunch or dinner, the French-style culinary delicacies are prepared by chef, Martin Fencz, and his team with market fresh ingredients. The experience is truly a local secret, as the ambiance is romantic for couples while also perfect for business meetings…as the tables are well spaced for privacy. For a special experience, reserve your table for 5 May or 7 July for the “Mal was Anderes” event, this special 8-course gourmet meal is a lovely experience that must be enjoyed.
The Meeting Rooms
There are 4 Salons that can be combined in a variety of configurations to accommodate 2-60 participants. We particularly like Salon 3 overlooking the Main Station and iconic statue of Alfred Escher, perfect for a smaller meeting up to 12 people. All the conveniences, such as presentation screen, hi-fi connections, laser pointer, fresh fruit, and notepads and exceptional service are included.
The Guest Rooms
Oh how we love the newly renovated rooms at the Hotel Schweizerhof! The beautiful purple and grey hues are so warm and inviting, the modern approach is a perfect compliment to the historical building. The bathrooms are luxuriously appointed (be sure to ask for one with a steam shower!) and the junior suites are complete the Swiss skincare amenities by Louis Widmer. This is one of our favorite hotels for guests visiting Zurich and for a romantic city getaway for couples who can enjoy a babysitter for the night or weekend!
