The Marktgasse Hotel calls it the “Kids Table” at Baltho. We call it “awesome”!
Sunday brunch does not have to be defined as a stressful, messy, plastic-cup drinking, bathrobe eating meal. Dress yourself up, enjoy a conversation with your hubby and let kids do what they want to do…play!
A footstep from the bustling Neiderdorf, step inside a circular partially open-kitchen restaurant. It looks rather elegant with dark wooden tables and creme colored cloth napkins, but it’s actually perfect for families with babies, toddlers and small kids who just can not sit still during a meal.
The restaurant’s created a special red & white checkered clothed table table and friendly floor area with all sorts of entertainment like puzzles, building blocks, trains & trucks, stamps, coloring books, games and more.
The kids can play here while you and your lunch mates enjoy a proper adult-style dinner table where afternoon wine and table side giggles are encouraged!
For Little Kids
The kids meal includes a main course, beverage, dessert and small gift bag for only CHF 10 (not bad at all for Zurich!).
Expect the usual chicken nugget and spaghetti suspects, but also some healthy options like fruit instead of ice-cream and grilled chicken on the penne.
For Big Kids (that’s us gals!)
With a slightly Asian influence, house specialties include Mussels cooked in a Tom kha Broth and the Bang-Bang Chicken, a spinach salad served with crispy chicken, spring onions, peanuts and ginger.
While the menu changes weekly, you can expect a selection of fish, meat and vegetarian options paired with seasonal sides.
Although we skipped it this time, the Steak Tatar with black truffles surely caught our eye and it was refreshing to see vegetarian options beyond pasta…we were intrigued and will surely go back to try the Panasia Tofu, a grilled tofu with miso glaze, edamame, sugar snap peas, coconut milk, sesame and coriander. Sounds delicious!
Why we Love it
The staff understood kids and no one stared at us with the non-verbal message of “Did they really bring their kids to brunch”. We felt totally comfortable and the restaurant team even helped the kids play while we were eating.
The restaurant definitely spoke to moms when creating the program and thought of many small details to make life easier. Kids even get to choose their own cup color – we know what the difference of a purple or pink cup can mean to a 3 year old!
Zuri Girl Tip
The baby play area is in the center of the room and the kids table seats about 6 so it could get crowded especially if you are already a large group on your own.
There are a few stairs leading down to the restaurant and stairs to the changing table / restrooms so be prepared to leave your buggy at the main entrance.
The Kids Table is available Saturday & Sunday from 11.00 – 14.00.
Located right in the Niederdorf, the Zoological Museum is just a stroller walk away. Make it a full-on family fun-Sunday!
