Zuri Girl recently traveled to the charming city of Vevey to meet our friends from Swiss Wine Selection and we could not be more impressed with the vibrancy of this destination just 2.5 hours from Zurich. We are already marking our calendars for an additional visit this summer!
Here are our Top 5 reasons to visit Vevey:
Considered a “Pearl of the Swiss Riviera” Vevey is situated on the north-east bank of Lake Geneva and has become famous for their impressive fork embedded into the lake. This 8m high x 1.3 m wide work of art designed by Jean-Pierre Zaugg, a sculptor from Neuchâtel, was displayed in 1995 to commemorate the Alimentarium’s tenth anniversary. In 1996, The Fork traveled toLittau in the Canton of Lucerne, to embellish the garden outside the Berndorf cutlery factory. In 2007, this impressive utensil came “home” for the Couverts découverts temporary exhibition on cutlery. That same year, the people of Vevey were supported by the Town Council with approval to keep The Fork as part of the Lake Geneva landscape. Impressive it is!
The world’s most beloved silent film star spent the last 25 years of his life (1952-1977) with his family in Vevey and on 17 April 2016, the Charlie Chaplin Museum will open it’s doors to the public. Chaplin’s World will reveal the private life of the man and the artist, while providing visitors with a timeless and immersive form of entertainment featuring the life and works of this international icon.
Reopening on 4 June 2016, the Ailmentarium is the world’s first museum devoted exclusively to nutrition. As part of their new permanent exhibitions, visitors can learn more about nutrition via three main sectors: FOOD (the journey from seedling to processing and preparation), SOCIETY (social eating habits from around the world) and BODY (a sensory exploration highlighting neurological pathways and how affects us from the inside out). As women interested in nutrition, we are excited to check it out this summer…and all our mommy friends are encouraged to go with the kiddos!
For Lunch or Dinner, we highly recommend this local favorite occupying the ground floor of an old restored house on the lakeshore (just near the The Fork itself!). The kitchen of Ze Fork serves gourmet French brasserie cuisine presented in a trilogy on your dish…three connected works of art interpreted from the same theme (from the sea, from the farm, from the air). As an appetizer, we enjoyed the option from the sea paired with a glass of house wine and couldn’t have been more pleased with our choice, so we ordered an entree and dessert…a total of nine mini dishes!
