We simply love the new, and super adorable vegan restaurant roots. Centrally located a few strides from HB, Roots offers a limited yet beautiful variety of healthy vegan soups and sandwiches, as well as salad and breakfast bowls, and lovely fresh made juices and smoothies. All available to enjoy there or take with you on the road.
roots grew out of deep passion and the dream of owning a takeaway restaurant. A barista ,a cook and a musician wanted to bring new life into the vegan Zürich restaurant scene and with ” healthy & tasty food ” a good life.
Since opening last July, they’ve been constantly busy, making everything fresh and on the spot, for both vegan and flexetarian crowds.
Intimate, hip, and not over crowded, it’s such a joy sitting down for a meal at roots, even during the crazy Swiss lunch time. The music in the background always fits the mood and time of day. It’s loud enough to hear but not too loud that you can’t have a conversation. We even went there with our not very relaxed kids, and were surprised to see the young, calm staff not being too bothered about the tornado that just stepped into their place. Plus the kids ate and drank happily, and even asked for more!
Speaking of eating, between us we managed to order about half a menu, and not one thing disappointed. The kids devoured the Green Couscous Bowl while we sipped on our Curry Coconut Soup and Cold Melon Soup, and the Rocky Balboa and Mediterraneo sandwiches were divine.
We LOVED the juices and smoothies just as much as we loved the names the roots team came up with: Good Girl Smoothie, Iron Man, Dead Princess and Matt’s Lemonade were so so good, the kids begged us to get more!
Why we LOVE it
There are so many reasons to love Roots. Young staff, fresh-made on the spot food, delicious drinks and relaxed atmosphere. We’re definitely planning on hitting Roots next time before 11am (child free) to try out their vegan bagels and breakfast bowls. We might have to go in a big group, in order to get everything offered and try it all out in one sitting 🙂
Zuri Girl Tip
Planning on visiting Roots soon? Order yourself the Good Girl Smoothie, and the Rocky Balboa sandwich (trust us, you won’t believe it’s vegan!), sit back, and enjoy!
