The International Beer Bar

Don’t turn your cocktail lovin noses up too fast ladies, with over 120 types of beer, The International Beer Bar is fun, casual & the perfect place to catch up with friends over…you know it…beer.

The Viadukt’s famous “cheese guy” swapped his dairy for barley and with 2 partners, opened up The International Beer Bar in December 2014.

They won the bid against dozens of other start-ups for the location with the idea to introduce guys & gals to smaller, family owned breweries, ensuring Zurich tastes buds enjoy life beyond Feldschlösschen (no offense to Feldschlösschen of course).

Grab your man for a Date Night he’ll definitely enjoy!

The Atmosphere

10923575_1530388820548844_1401326175130928126_nAdjacent to Rifffaff and walking distance to all the yummy Josefstrasse eats, it fits perfectly into the urban Kries 5.

A neighborhood feelin…not too big, but not too small…not too stuffy, but not too casual.

If standing’s not your gig, make a reservation for one of the bar tables in the side area. More ideal for relaxing & street people watching.

Excited for summer when the bar’s exterior gets naked…the giant front window goes bye bye when warm weather says hi hi. Hmmm…A Focaccia Sandwhich & Brewski await us!

The Menu

The oversized magnetic menu that stretches from wall to wall is organized by beer type (Lager, Cider, etc) and each beer has a little flag to show where it’s from.

The International Beer Bar itself does not have a kitchen, which is actually awesome as, instead, they steal, borrow & beg from the neighborhood eateries like lunch from Pies from Meat Pi – expect to see various food options and bar munchies.

The Drinks

IMG_3378 copyThe majority of the beers are from Swiss breweries with the rest from Germany, Belgium, the United States, UK, Canada, Holland & Czech Republic.

The most popular beer is the Scottish Brewdog Punk IPA, but if you want to stay local, try the Chopfab or Brull! Braurerei.

Guinness fans MUST taste The Stout from Appenzellar and for something different, gather friends to split the 75cl Belgium Sparkling Beer, Deus or be super exclusive and order a Bavarian Maisel & Friends as it’s the only place in Switzerland you can find it.

Why we Love It

10420250_10153021399698408_2725363285087421531_nIt’s new, it’s different (for Zurich) and there’s a ton of heart & soul from the guys behind the bar.

These guys (owners Mike & Christian) make it fun. Tell them a little about what you like (bold, fruity, etc) and they’ll help you order…don’t be shy to ask…a 200+ beer menu is no easy task to navigate and half the fun is trying something new!
