Is it the 100th time today you moved your baby from their changing table to their play mat and just not sure what else to do with them? Ok, ladies…fix your hair, pop your baby in the stroller and explore the world! Ok, maybe the world is a bit too dramatic so let’s start with a baby class…
Baby classes are so much fun to do with your little one. You and baby will learn something new, it will give you an opportunity to meet other moms and help establish a routine for you both.
We’re excited to share a few of our favorite classes hand picked because of their curriculum geared to help the baby develop and the teachers who are well educated and inspirational. Plus, they just get it. They don’t mind if you stop to nurse, they don’t mind when the baby cries…they are patient, intelligent and caring…exactly what a new mom craves.
Discover a new class and enjoy the time with your baby!
Kindermusic with Brandy
When: Mondays at 9.00 & Tuesdays at 14.15
Where: Bäckeranlage. Langstrasse, 8005 Zurich (map)
Why: An established program built from researching showing that rich sensory environments are vital to the brain development of infants, the class introduces music in a relaxed and playful environment.
Tell me More: Expect 45 minutes of musical fun. Mommy and their mini me’s will bounce, twirl, march and dance – a great way to introduce music to your child and create a special stress-free weekly ritual together.
Why we Love it: While the program is globally recognized and has been sharing songs since 1978, it’s Brandy the teacher who really keeps us smiling. She is awesome with a capital A. She’s fun, engaging and will keep the class exciting for everyone.
Zuri Girl Tip: You’ll receive a CD of all the songs to play at home or work as a lifesaver for car rides!
How many Francs: 450 for a 13-week semester

Developmental Baby Massage with Marta
When: Mondays. You choose the time as sessions are 1 to 1.
Where: Osteopathic Centre for Children. Bahnweg 133, 8706 Meilen (map)
Why: From her studies at the International School of Development and Baby Massage & Movement, Marta is educated about how babies develops, how their internal systems function and challenges that can occur. She understands the positions and movements to help your baby feel comfortable, build muscles, increase flexibility and work towards developmental milestones (e.g., sitting, crawling, etc).
Tell me More: Marta’s massage movements can help improve digestion, circulation, posture, coordination and especially helpful for babies that have been born prematurely. Plus, it’s a relaxing time for you and your baby to enjoy and solely focus on one another.
Why we Love it: It’s completely personalized. Unlike other classes, it’s just you, your baby & Marta. She tailors the class to fit your needs…so if colic is a problem, she’ll spend more time focusing on calming the crying. You learn in class, but apply it all at home so dad can join in the massage too!
Zuri Girl Tip: Marta’s practice is uber family friendly with lots of toys and patience. In other words, crazy toddlers are welcome too (bring a doll to practice on just like mom).
How many Francs: CHF 460 for four 45-minute sessions

Pelvic Floor, Belly & Back
When: Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays | 10.00 – 11.00 & Wednesdays | 14.00 – 15.15 & Thursdays | 14.00 – 15.00
Where: Birthlight. Grüngasse 21, 8004 Zurich (map)
Why: You crave your normal body but forget it took 9 months to change and can’t instantly go back. This class eases you back, gently re-training and strengthening the pelvic floor, belly & back.
Tell me More: The class targets specific muscles, it focuses on your pelvic floor and forces you to isolate individual muscles. The class is a series of lying down and standing exercises where proper skeletal alignment is encouraged. As times and when appropriate, the baby is integrated in class to encourage bonding. It’s not a high impact class, but more a physical and mental focus on core body areas with a bit of relaxation and time for baby & self awareness.
Why we Love it: Despite starting over 10 years ago and offering 30+ weekly mommy focused classes, the owner Katia, doesn’t see it as a business. She simply sees it as a way to help women. She values the body, wants to encourage self-nourishment and provide a peaceful place where time is not rushed and stress is not present.
Zuri Girl Tip: Maya usually teaches in German while Katia, Gisela Collazo and Flavia are mother-tongue English speakers
How many Francs: CHF 35 with discount abos available

Why: It’s never too early to start getting your baby comfortable in water. The classes always offer lots of singing and splashing and fun toys worth “swimming” after.
Tell me More: Babys im Wasser has been providing swimming lessons to babies for almost 20 years and is one of the leading schools in Switzerland. They offer many classes across 5 different kantons (Zurich, Zug, Schwyz, Lucerne, Nidwalden) and for all age groups including family classes…that means dad and the siblings come along too.
Why we Love it: We love how friendly the instructors are and how sweet they are with the babies – you can tell they really enjoy their jobs.

When: Thursdays |10.00 – 11.00
Where: AIRYOGA. Oberdorfstrasse 2, 8001 Zurich (map)
Why: While the class incorporates the baby, it also focuses on you as a new mom and helps strengthen post-birth muscles, incorporates relaxation breathing and yoga poses both with and without baby.
Tell me More: AIRYOGA is such a zen environment, you might actually forget for a second that your days are 24hours of crying, diaper changing and feeding. It’s chilled, relaxed and you can enjoy the healthy snacks, tea and a nice chat after in their relaxing lounge area.
Why we Love it: Zuri Girl learned one of her favorite ways to hold her baby from teacher Nina Calame. Nina incorporates the baby often and teaches you different and comfortable holds for practical day to day situations.
Zuri Girl Tip: Ideal for those don’t love to commit to weekly routines. You can buy an abo, but don’t have to go weekly so if a diaper explosion occurs on the way there (we know it happens gals!), you can turn back around without a penalty.
How many Francs: CHF 30 | Abo of 10 classes for CHF 230

PS. Zuri Girl is eager to learn Baby Sign Language to add to this fun list. We hear Zwergensprache hosts workshops, private lessons and courses, but we haven’t checked one out yet. If you do, let us know how it goes!
