It comes with great pleasure that we let you in on a little secret: we just discovered a fabulous outlet shopping destination!
That’s right ladies, this constellation of designer outlets is not a mirage …it’s Outlet City Metzingen near Stuttgart and we have the perfect weekend getaway planned for you to explore this discount shopping paradise with discounts ranging from 30-70% off retail prices all year round. Go ahead and mark the calendar, make it a girlfriend getaway (or go with the family!) and pack yourself an empty suitcase!
Destination: Stuttgart, Germany
This charming city is just 3 hours from Zürich by train, or 2 hours by car. Stuttgart is the largest wine-grower in Germany infamous for their Trollinger wines…which pair perfectly with Swabian (this cultural region of south-west Germany) specialties: Maultaschen, Kässpätzle, Gaisburger Marsch, and the Swabian national dish, lentils with Spätzle.
While the annual Bierfest and Weindorf are fabulous reasons to visit, it is SHOPPING that brings us to this charming city this time around.
Shopping: Outletcity Metzingen
With over 70 premium brand outlet shops …you will find everything from essential t-shirts for €5 at Esprit to deeply discounted designer threads from the likes of Armani, Prada, Diane von Furstenberg, Bogner, Moncler, Escada and Tod’s just to name a few. Would you believe we found gorgeous Max Mara dresses and Jimmy Choo shoes for 70% off! Ladies have been looking for designer outlet shopping near Zurich and Outletcity Metzingen is the place to be…and don’t forget to work in lunch at Olio e Pane just across from the visitors center (where you can also charge your phone!)
Zuri Girl Tip: Bring the Kids: then Drop them off at KIDS CAMP
Let the day care specialists at Kids Camp entertain your little ones while mommy has fun shopping! Time will fly when they are preoccupied with an entire program of events that includes face-painting, airbrush tattoos, special effects make-up, balloon modeling, karaoke, games and competitions, dressing-up and circus activities…just to name a few! For children aged 3-12 for a maximum of 4 horus. Childcare costs 2.50€/hour; and 1.50€/hour each additional child. German and English are spoken.
Set up Base Camp: Your Overnight Stay
Once we heard there is a Shopping Shuttle* that makes a circle from the outlets to the hotels in the area, look no further than the most convenient and stylish hotel on the route: Mövenpick Hotel Stuttgart Airport & Messe. This property absolutely does not feel like an airport hotel, despite it’s location just 50-meters from the Airport/Messe train station…trust us, the soundproof windows really are soundproof!
For your Man: The Mercedes-Benz Museum
Good luck dragging your man to the outlets for a shopping marathon. Rather than rush through the shops and work up a sweat in the fitting rooms, let him enjoy the day at the Mercedes-Benz Museum where at least 3 hours could joyfully disappear while he feeds his fascination with shiny gasoline engines dating back to 1886. The 1500 exhibits spread across 9 floors with the finest collection of original Mercedes-Benz automobiles. Need more time at the outlets? Have no fear, the Porsche Museum is also located within Stuttgartt
Treat Yourself: Relax those Aching Feet
Once back at the Mövenpick Hotel Stuttgart (aka base camp), enjoy the 400 sq m wellness area complete with a Finnish and classic sauna, steam bath, Kneipp water-treading basin, ice fountain, wellness showers, and massage treatments on request. While spas are generally a space for peace and quiet, we think this location has some fabulous nooks for girlfriends to relax together and compare shopping stories from the day!
