For the Mommas and Mommas to Be

Healthy-Mamas5 Tips that Will Save You this Winter…Because you don’t have time to get sick!

Being pregnant and being a new mom are amazing life-changing experiences that only happen once or twice (or more for the really brave) in a lifetime.  It’s also super stressful and a time where your body and mind need to be 100% healthy.

To help keep the sick bugs away, Zuri Girl sat down with Health Coach Vanessa who has 1st hand experience with this topic. She shared that since giving birth to her baby last year, she’s been hit with a barrage of colds, viruses and stomach flu. We even heard a terribly distributing story of how her last bug had been after her kid was literally thrown up on at daycare. YUCK.

Health Coach Vanessa was determined to stop this cycle and help our Zuri Moms combat sick bugs. She researched the top things that we Mommas and Mommas to Be can do to ensure that our immune systems don’t break down when we need it the most.

Healthy Moms + Happy Moms.  We hope you are both this winter!

In more detail…

1) EXAGERATED Hand Washing.

Yes… be a bit freaky with the hand washing. Most germs are passed from hand to furniture to hand to mouth.

2) Eat IMMUNE BOOSTING Foods.

Try these: Garlic, Bifidus Yogurt, Orange Vegetables and Chicken Soup.

Garlic has anti-bacterial properties. Bifidus helps to grow the right bacteria to battle against the bad. Orange vegetables like sweet potato have Beta-carotene, which is the precursor to Vitamin A, supporting healthy skin (one of our first defenses against the bad bugs.)

And we all know Chicken Soup has its magical warming and healing effect.

Why wait till you are sick to start eating it??

3) Go to the MÜTTERBERATUNG (it’s free.)

This is for your sanity. Worry has been known to impair your immunity, whereas positive thoughts can heal you. The Mütterberatung is a FREE service in Switzerland that supports moms to be and new moms (kids up to the age of 5.) Mütter = Moms and Beratung = Advice/Mentoring

Health Coach Vanessa shares how she recently went there to get support around weaning her baby off the breast and how to get him to sleep through the night. They listen! They understand and have really nice experienced ideas of what you can try. She highly recommends a visit, even just to check in and weigh your baby.

Find your local location here.

4) Get more SLEEP than you think you need.

This is the number one reason why we get sick! If you are tired, your body won’t stand a chance against any buggies.

For new moms she know it’s difficult. Ask your partner, babysitter or a friend to take the baby out for a walk for at least 2-3 hours while you sleep. Do this regularly once or twice a week to tank up and get rest. DO NOT CLEAN or DO WHATEVER… REALLY SLEEP.

For mamas to be… sleep now while you can honey. Daytime naps are the best while propped with pillows on the couch.

My recommendation for moms is 9-10 hours. Seriously… breastfeeding, waking up at night, having to be “on” all day long and attentive takes serious energy. I go to bed at 9:30 every night, even though it kills me (there’s so much I want to do.) But honestly, if I don’t, then I will get sick. It’s proven itself more than once.

5) SLOW Down and Stay Home

Yes. Slow and at home. It’s wintertime ya’all and what are the animals doing? Hibernating. Not partying. Not shopping all day. They are sleeping, cuddling and conserving energy. Try it on for size, more often than not. Invite people over to watch movies and enjoy a healthy meat stew. (And please give the iPhones a rest as well!!)

Enjoy your winter. Stay healthy!
